Get Mistletoe-Ready: Fresh Breath Tips for the Holidays
November 13, 2025

During the holiday season, it’s the time when people tend to go out with their beloved. The festive décor can make any moment more romantic. You may be walking with your partner or crush, and then you both stumble under some mistletoe. It’s tradition to give them a kiss, but what if your breath isn’t fresh? You don’t want to ruin the moment, so it’s important to keep up with your oral health. Here are five tips on how you can easily do that.
1.) Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day
Ever since you were growing up, it’s likely been ingrained into you to brush your teeth twice a day. That hasn’t changed now that you are older, as it’s still a great way to remove harmful plaque on the surfaces of your teeth. Bacteria in your mouth not only cause cavities, but also bad breath. Be sure to do this habit for at least two minutes with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush to set you up for success.
2.) Don’t Forget to Floss At Least Once Every Day
Another step in a proper oral hygiene routine is flossing. Brushing can only get plaque on your teeth, but floss thread can get between them. This handy tool can also help you test how your breath smells. Do this habit on your back teeth and sniff the floss to get a sense of it.
3.) Scrub Your Tongue
Have you ever noticed a white or brownish film on your tongue? This is actually bacteria that have been clinging to it! It can cause bad breath and maybe even spoil your mistletoe moment. A great way to get rid of it is by simply brushing your tongue! You can even buy a dedicated scraper from your local department store.
4.) Keep Sugar-Free Mints or Gum Handy
If you do all the things above, then a great way to keep your breath fresh while on the go is to have some sugar-free mints or gum. You can pop one in your mouth after you enjoy a romantic dinner with your beloved or when you think you’ll share a special moment with them.
5.) Visit Your Dentist
A reliable way to keep your oral health the best it can be is through checkups and cleanings with your dentist. These visits allow them to watch out for any oral health issues that can spell trouble. By giving you early treatment, you can ensure your smile stays the best it can be, from the holidays and beyond. You can also get personalized advice about your oral hygiene; that way, your mistletoe moment or any other time doesn’t get ruined by bad breath.
