4 Dentist-Approved Valentine’s Day Gifts

Couple embracing on Valentine’s DayValentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means you’re putting thought into the perfect gifts to show your love and appreciation. While you could choose the traditional route with candy and flowers, why not give your sweetheart a gift that keeps on giving with a healthy smile? Here are 4 dentist-approved Valentine’s gifts for the special someone in your life.

1. Electric Toothbrush

Tooth decay is the most prevalent condition affecting Americans, despite being preventable. 92% of adults have had at least one cavity. The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice daily for 2 minutes.

Brushing in the morning and at night lowers the risk of cavities to keep tooth loss at bay. Although manual toothbrushes are effective, electric options offer more brush strokes per minute for a better clean. Many have special features to cater to your loved one’s exact needs, like a built-in timer or pressure sensor.

2. Waterflosser

Besides cavities, gum disease is also a leading cause of tooth loss. However, it is also linked to many health issues, like heart attack and Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 50% of Americans have the preventable infection. Daily flossing is the best way to prevent gum disease for a healthy mouth and body.

Unfortunately, many people view it as a chore, but a waterflosser will make the task easier and more effective. A gentle stream of pressurized water quickly cleanses between teeth to promote oral and general health.

3. Solid Dark Chocolate

If you can’t resist giving a sweet treat to the special person in your life, choose dark chocolate instead of hard or sticky candy.

Hard candy must be held in the mouth to dissolve, bathing teeth in cavity-causing sugar. Sticky candy clings to teeth and erodes enamel.

Chocolate is less likely to linger in the mouth because it’s easier to remove, making it a safer option for your Valentine’s smile. The darker the chocolate, the better for their oral health.

4. A Brighter Smile

A beautiful smile is attributed to youth, success, and confidence, but 80% of Americans want whiter teeth.

If your sweetheart is embarrassed by stains or discoloration, give them the bright, confident smile they desire with professional teeth whitening from a cosmetic dentist.

Whether an in-office treatment or an at-home kit, their teeth can get up to 8 shades whiter. Their results can last for many months or years to enjoy a lasting boost to their self-esteem.

Think outside of the box this Valentine’s Day. Healthy teeth and gums will give them one more reason to smile.
